confused about TPMS on my GS 450h
I got my 07 450h two years ago. I sold the original wheels/tires because they were all scuffed up from the previous owner. I got a good deal on another set of OEM wheels/tires which were supposed to have TPMS from craigslist. I put those on last summer and have been driving around without problems. This week I got the Check System light. I did some research and it was probably TPMS related. Coincidentally, I was taking my car in for a recall. The dealer said that all the wheels were missing the sensors.
I thought the guy said my set had them. I just took his word for it and didn't really care actually. Then I found out you can't turn off the system and now the light is going to stay on. How could I drive around for months without having any problems and now get the warning light?

simple, its the same way i did with my wheels. the system will not check until you hit 50 miles in 1 trip (ie drive for 50 miles without turning the car off). when you hit 50 miles, the system checks and if they are not on it will trigger the lights to go off.
when i had my aftermarket wheels, i never had sensors in them because i use to only drive on average 20 miles in 1 trip so it never went off. the lights will go off eventually but i forget how many cycles it takes for it to go off and it does take a while lol.

correct, like stated it will stay on for quite sometime until the ecu cycles through. if you dont want to buy new sensors, you'll have to wait, like mentioned i dont know the number of cycles required but it does eventually go off if you stay under the 50 mile. if you go over 50 miles, the cycles will have to start over.
easiest way is just buy new sensors

4 sets of TPMS sensors are registered to the vehicle. When you sold your old wheels did you remove the sensors?
The new wheels you purchased may have the sensors, but they are not registered to the vehicle. Its very easy to see if you have the sensors or not. Lexus uses a silver nut/cap to hold the sensors in place. If you have that then you have tpms's in the wheels, if you have a rubber valve stem then you do not have the lexus tpms.
If you do have the sensors, take it back to the dealer and explain to them you just purchased wheels and tpms and you need to have all 4 registered. That should resolve the issue you are having.
