typical problem in the 06-07 lexus design. the seat belt hits that area when you release (and not slowly retreat) it. i know on the LSB there was a TSIB to replace the cover to a new design (which was used in later model year), not sure if they had one for the GS too?

it has to do with how you / passenger release (let go) of the seat belt.

as Henry said, there is a LSB for this. I had mine replaced because my button on my jeans caught it and put a little rip in it.

Mine's immaculate for an 06, aside from the passenger side where the old service advisor had it fixed somewhat.
There is INDEED a TSIB, but if your car is out of warranty period or whatever, they will not replace the two sides. I was refused the replacement job under TSIB for that reason solely.

I have a similar problem. Is there any way to prevent that from happening.

Youll need the updated part, forgot what year but it has been updated. My 08 has the newer version

Holy crap. I'm glad I picked up an 08 and not an earlier model. My 04 M3 has 125k mi and it has a similar issue but its not nearly as bad.

might be able to buy the part and put it on yourself. The instruction in the TSIB "look" easy enough...
