Default Trunk release

I thought this was gonna be an easy fix............a little more involved than I anticipated.

Yeah, i was thinking the same thing. It looks like its easy because of the two circles next to the button- I was thinking they were plastic covers for screws to pop out the assembly.

Great writeup, replaced my switch this weekend, still doesn't work. Checked the fuses, tried the override button in the glovebox, might get back to it some day but I can live without it for now.

Proper tool for pulling those trunk trim fasteners, and a small screwdriver and flat prybar that also worked well:

Does it still work with the remote or trunk release button on the dash?

Yes. I can feel and hear the mechanical click of the switch, but no worky. I may have to do some electrical testing to see if the switch actually works, see if there is power to one side of the socket, etc. That will require taking off the trunk trim again, but luckily I still have the new fasteners I never bothered using.

Good Lord, my wife's 07 has had this hanging for a year or so now. Guess I will have another project. Just replaced all the interior and running board lights with LED's on my GX and that took about the time it will take to do this job. Thanks for the instructions.

Default 2007 ES350 Same gooey trunk button

I have the same problem. This is my 3rd Lexus and this has never happened before. I've been ignoring it until today when I noticed it's now dripping down near my tag. My car has never been near chemicals and it's garaged. Strangest thing and I think there are many more experiencing this.
I will contact Lexus tomorrow.

do you guys use the trunk button a lot?

I do, and it has not melted yet. Dirty fingers and flexing a lot.

I'm wondering if yours are melted because it never gets used.

I open my trunk both manually and with my key fob equally. I called the dealer today and they said this has been a common problem but is not covered under warranty. It will cost $300.00 to fix. After seeing the other threads here, I will try to buy the part and do it myself.

have a link to the part? Mine is not "melting"...but it's strangely sticky and tacky. I may just get it over with before it gets worse. Now that summer is here in Oklahoma....I have to believe it will only be worse, once the 100+ temps start hitting.

Angry Metled cover on trunk button GS460

My 2008 GS460 has the same issue with the melted rubber cover over the trunk release button. Lexus dealership said the switch shorted out, I find that hard to believe because it works fine. They wanted to charge me $211.00 to replace. Wish I could find the cover only.
