Brake Grinding Noise Help
#16
Older version of the GS350 rotors were closed in that specific area, but the new set of rotors that all GS350 come with and sold at dealership are like that. My car is currently in service, Once I get it back I will post up a pic of the rotors. I even remember EBC rotors came just like that also.

It's hard to get a pic of it but I had a mechanic look at it. He used one of the small mirrors dentists use and there was plenty of pad left. Maybe the pad in the back is worn?

My 2007GS350AWD has different rotors. Lexus replaced them out of warranty after a few trips to dealership for squealing noise.

They probably had old stock of rotors or It just depends where they are made, but as you see few people have the cut outs like me. I have to say with the cut outs, I did notice for them to run cooler then without.

Lexus replaced the rotors and pads under L-SB-0040-09 four yeas ago. The new design rotors and pads didn't work. The squealing noise came back in a few months. But not terrible comparing with the original squealing noise. Only happened on the first tap at the brakes.

Ohh, that makes sense.... From the picture he took, it looked like literal slits and cracks....
My bad guys my bad!
My Rotora rotors aren't slotted there, I have slotted/drilled rotors though.
Keep us updated on the shims ordeal! It'd be a great addition to information for other future members having this problem xMJx

The rotors are another new design. Lexus replaced them along with new pads under L-SB-0011-11 Squealing Front brakes. After two years and 30K miles riding on them, still no squealing noise. Knock on wood. I don't know why the new design rotors are not for sale. Probaby they only works with new design Blue (low dust) pads.

Okay, so I took the car to a tire&brake shop. Shims are present and accounted for. Front pad are new, replaced not very long ago. The mechanic said the rotors were not machined when the new pads were put in and that may be the cause of the noise. Im debating whether or not to redo the front brakes correctly. If new ceramic pads are cheap then it might be worth it to see if that gets rid of the noise.

So I think I've finally resolved the grinding noise issue. The noise came from a combination of used un-machined rotors combined with new metallic pads. Also, they were glazed. After machining both, the noise has mostly gone away. I believe ceramic pads along with a machining the rotors will rid me of the noise completely.
