Navigation Map update
Does anyone know how to upgrade the maps in the GPS. I have a 2010 GS350. Is it a do it yourself task after you purchase the disc/usb

welcome to clublexus!
it's completely diy. the nav ecu is just in the glove box. you just go to the menu / setting screens on the nav and hit eject, and the disc comes out, put in new one, let it load, done

crap... OP, just noticed that you edited your first post and added that you have a 2010 GS. DVD is the case for 06-09. for 2010-12, i think they changed it to hdd base.
if that's the case, yes you need to get the USB, but it's just the authorization key. the map data is only available at dealerships and they have to use their own system to update

I am brand new here, so pardon my questions if they have already been discussed. With the Navigation Updates, exactly how much is updated. I am aware about new street construction etc, but has the audio accompaniment been enhanced, i.e.. are Street Names actually announced in the newer version(s)
Has anyone had success with second hand copies or eBAy?

for lexus, most of the time the updates are just on the map and POI. hardly do they have any major software / interface changes
if you have 07-09 then all you need is just the map dvd, put it in and you are good. if you have 10-12 then you can only go through dealerships and it's more expensive too i think. the dvd i think new is around 250? check out sewell lexus, they are vendor here and they are very helpful
if you find used copies from ebay sure that's fine, BUT you need to make sure you get the right one. there are different generations of navigation systems, etc.. a wrong disc and you might run into trouble

bought 2 from Ebay recently. 1 was OEM used ($50) with Spring 2013 release. 2nd was new non-OEM ($10) and current version. I wasn't sure about the non-OEM version as ad suggested it was factory but when I received it, it was a copy.
