90K mile question and a pic!
hey guys,
been forever since i logged on.
had to move from norcal to socal and deal with a bunch of other nonsense so haven't been around much but i missed the forums
its time to do the 90K mile service on my 06 430 and i was wondering how many of you actually go to a lexus dealer to have it done?
they quoted me like $482 including parts/labor/tax and my dad has a mechanic he has been taking his toyota's to for past 20 years that he swears by and if i bring the parts he said $150 out the door.
i haven't looked over how much the diff filters etc cost but i'm assuming the actual labor can't be that difficult for a mechanic.
am i wrong in this at all?
also the service advisor at lexus advised me to get the timing belt/water pump package which is like $1899 less a $250 discount you can get from online coupon.
he advised me to do this package over the phone without even looking at my car.
i know its not a required service at this mileage, but can be recommended. you think this is a red flag for this place that he's advising i do it without even looking at the condition of my car, or just totally standard?
when do most people do this service?
sorry if this is a question that has been brought up before, if there is a thread already on this topic feel free to flame me for not being better at the search function
appreciate all input.
oh and if anyone has a mechanic in the greater los angeles area they highly recommend i'll take that as well.

ok so i just looked on sewell parts and ok dumb question sorry for wasting your time.
i can get all the parts including the timing belt for $100 lol.
clearly not paying 2K+ for lexus mechanics to work on my car.
there is no way any competent mechanic won't be able to do this service.
sorry for wasting everyone's time.

I ordered all the parts for the timing belt/water pump from Sewell w/20% member discount and did it myself in a day + 3 hrs the next morning. I'm not a mechanic. It's pretty straight forward, and actually enjoyed completing the job myself. Saved a pretty penny too.

I emailed to see if I can just get the 90K kit and add the water pump, but haven't heard back yet.
I've ordered from them in the past and they've always been super helpful so I'm optimistic they'll help me.
cheers.
