How heavy are the 20" Vossen CV3's?
Looking to get some wheels, love the look of the Vossens for our car, but I am afraid that going with a 20" wheel will add weight on all 4 corners and will make my GS350 a little sluggish on take offs. I know HRE has 2 piece wheels that are light in weight for a 20, down side is that their very expensive. Looking to go with a 20 X 9.5 F, 20 X10.5 R.
You owners with Vossens, did you notice a decrease in response, hard take offs, etc.? How much heavier are the CV3's than our stock 18" 5 spoke wheels?

^^ This is correct - can google for a lot of technical and physics details but here's a good discussion

If you want to get technical, look up the weight difference on your set of rims and the Vossen and compare their values to the rotational inertia. Here's a quick link with a calculator: http://stephenmason.com/cars/rotationalinertia.html

Thanks you all for your input on the topic at hand.
The CV3's for being 27-28 lbs is pretty light for a 20 " wheel. I was hoping for a number less than 30 lbs or else I would look elsewhere for another wheel manufacture.
Yeah 187, rotational mass plays a major difference in the way a car accelerates , handles and brakes. Totally different then adding cargo weight. My RX-8 with 19" wheels only weigh 20 lbs. Factory is 24 or 25 lbs in stock 18 " trim. And let me tell you the difference is night and day!
That is why I want a light 20 " rim, I love the response of the 350 and taking that away would be pointless to go with a wheel that looks great but takes away the performance of the car.

You want light weight 19-20" wheels? Check out the BBS Ri-D, the lightest and strongest road legal monoblock forge wheels on the market ... the only downside is the price, roughly $2500 per wheel
That's the only set of wheels I'll get if money was not an option.

Your not kidding! Those are awesome wheels just like the HRE wheels. Light but very expensive, 595S wheels are the ones I want so bad for my car! But there 1800-2500 bucks per wheel! I can't justify spending that much for my baby. Been seeing lightly used HRE on eBay , complete sets going for 2500-3500. This where I am torn, do I get brand new Vossens CV3 for 2000 bucks or do I go ultra premium and get some lightly used HRE for the same price or tad bit more? Decisions , Decisions.....

I prefer function > form and I'm in the minority of not putting 19-20" wheels on my GS460 because I like the way it performs and want to maintain that way. Yes bigger wheels may look great at a stand still and be the norm for upgrading aesthetics, but from experience you can feel the additional rotating mass from slightly bigger heavier wheels and tires affecting the overall performance of the vehicle. To me that's taking away from what the vehicle was originally designed to do.
For me it was a relatively simple; do I want make my car to handle slightly worse for the sake of looking uber cool in a parking lot, or would I rather get some lighter wheels that improves the driving dynamics and overall experience?
All in all it's a matter of personal wheel size preference, new or used, type of style, whether it's cast or forged monoblock or forged 3-piece and how much you want to spend. Personally I rather go with HRE because they're a very reputable and proven brand and the wheels are TUV/JWL/VIA certified, so you know the wheels has been engineered and tested for safety and rigidity. Good luck on the search for new wheels, it can be a daunting task because there's much selection out there!

I don't track my car so the additional couple pounds of mass didn't really hinder my daily commute. If I were looking to shave a tenth off my 1/4 mile I'd probably look into a lighter wheel.
