I believe the problem is a VSC problem and not a transmission problem. When VSC kicks in, and in your case.. there's a problem with its operation... your car will reluctantly upshift into higher gears to assist you in better traction and engine braking.

Under normal operation, when you accelerate hard and VSC kicks in, your transmission will hold lower gears as long as it can until it is convinced you are no longer on at WOT or potentially WOT again. The system tries to adapt to your driving and throttle prediction.

I hate this feature, but that's how they come.
Hey Designo. Not sure if you are still on this board, but hope so. What you describe is very similar to my issue. I have a 04 Lexis GS300. About 3 or 4 years ago, I started experiencing intermittent trandmission-like symptoms. About once or twice per week, i feel a slight jerk when car shifts between either between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. Check engine light comes on along with VSC lights. The warning lights go away after a few subsequent starts and codes clear. It throws a P0980 code of I remember correctly which indicates an issue with a shift solenoid. I brought my vehicle to a transmission shop when this first began in 2017. They drained the fluid, changed the filter and cleaned all the solenoids. They verified that the solenoids worked fine and they could find no issues. So, it's been nearly 4 years and I still have this intermittent issue. It's an annoyance but hasn't gotten worse or better. Every week or so I get a slight jerk while accelerating between gears. It goes away and codes clear out. Does this sound like the VSC issue you described in your original comment? If so, how do I get this fixed or do i just live with it? Would a ECU reset correct this? Thank you for your help...much appreciated!!!

My email address is Txlegnon@aim.com..not sure if you respond on this thread if I will be notified (first time poster). Thank you again!!
