Hello , I read and reread, but besides the part number list,I couldn't find the link or an actual part number for only the ballast, not the whole headlight assembly. Do you know the part number for just the ballast on a 2007 Lexus Is 250? I would appreciate the information,as I can't find any correct information.

How long does this last for?

I have a 2009 lexus IS250 in need of a ballast replacement. Currently being quoted $2000 because the dealership doesn’t sell the ballast alone. I have had a bad experience with the cheaper D4S bulbs (had to replace after one year) i wanted to know what the best option for the ballast replacement.

The ballast on my left side has died. Has anyone bypassed the ballast and installed an LED bulb? I know it is possible, but you have to have access to the cables going into the ballast.

I am not technically very competent. "Dammit Jim, I'm a tax lawyer, not an engineer!" I spent 3 hours just getting the bulb out and transferring it to the other connection to confirm that it still worked.

I'd love to have non-Xenon bulbs and not have to worry about the ballast going bad. I am going to have to pay a mechanic to do this and it will cost me a helluva lot less if he does not have to remove the front bumper.

Dropping the bumper isn't bad, takes about 20-30 minutes if you move slowly, just need to be careful about the bumper tabs where it meets the fenders in case they've become brittle or damaged over the years. I suggest getting a good quality ballast from a reputable source, skip the ebay and Amazon stuff. You don't want to pay for labor twice as a good ballast should last upwards of 12 years.

Well, mechanic confirmed the ballast is bad. $500 or so to replace one. Did not ask for the price for both. I also asked about repairing the AFS auto leveling system. They said it is built into the assembly. Cost of replacing both headlight assemblies was $3,200 and change. Uh...no. They are looking for aftermarket headlight assemblies. Oh...and the headlamp assemblies don't include the ballast or bulbs...so add $500 to that (or is it $1000 for two ballasts). Sheesh.

Anyone care to make recommendations?

It’s intimidating but doable with some basic tools (sockets, wrenches and picks for clips).

For me, having my 07 GS around for almost 15 years, new headlights are not a good investment nor did I want aftermarket since I wasn’t sure about light output and longevity of non-OEM lights. Also, I’d disable the AFS function and call it a day, I dont find it very useful anyways

Well, I would not get much trading it in and I just spent a modest amount on new wheels and tires. Better the devil you know. I miss my old 99 Audi A4. I never had surprising, simple, super expensive repairs like this.

Ballast and auto-leveler dead

Auto leveler on driver's side broke and caused vibration. The cost of new Lexus headlamp assemblies is cost prohibitive. Repair shop called to say they will install parts that I choose to buy. Very odd. I can buy components at a site they recommended for about $700 per side plus cost of ballast.
