Default Want to change tranny oil. Need advice.

Hello folks.
103k miles. Just had a the timing belt, water pump job done. Antifreeze is new.
I wanted to change out the tranny fluid and rear end fluid. Lexus of queens wants $200 for each service, which is overpriced but I don't mind much.

Problem is such. I dint trust the mechanics at the dealer. I had a few negative experiences.
How would I know if they actually changed the tranny oil. Also how would I know of they refilled it properly. Our sealed unit requires a special procedure, adding and checking fluid when car is warm.
I'm afraid the quality of work will be subpar and who ever does it will not care for it much, thinking I will get the car back and be fine. Tranny going out a few hundred miles later and me being stuck with no tranny. At which point explaining anything to them will be difficult.

I don't want to sound paranoid, but I have a good reason. I was once sent out with a new brake job only to come back to tell them that the caliper is sticking. Their fault. They fixed it right away.

I love e car and will keep it for another 3-4 years . Can't believe it's almost 3 years since I own it. I was gonna trade it in for a LS460, but after driving it , I wasn't too impressed. So looks like I'll be keeping it.
As a side note, I did briefly own a 87 420SEL MB. And boy did I fall in love. It just drives like a tank, and I loved it. I sold that one, but am keeping an eye out for the right 420 or 560.

Thanks

unless you do the work yourself you're gonna have to trust that the dealership did it correctly… i had mine done at the toyota dealership and can't say for sure anything is done right unless you do the work yourself …..

That's so true...ask your SA if you can peep in to see how the procedure is done and if you want the filter replaced ask for the old one.

$200 for a transmission service is not bad at all if they are exchanging all the fluid and not just emptying the pan. I'd let the Lexus dealer do it. I don't trust either but if I had to choose the Lexus or Toyota dealer as far as doing it right I'd take Lexus. At my Lexus dealership the techs have to work at the owners toyota dealership next door before they can move over to Lexus. The only way they can bypass that is if they worked at the owners other lexus dealership in another city.

For 2006 GS430's they used a timing chain, not a belt.

That's what I though. But the gentleman who started the thread said he got his timing "belt" changed...but these don't have belts...
Just threw me is all...not sure what he meant to say...

I don't think this is true, the GS430 uses a belt. GS300, GS350, GS460 use chains.
