DIY Throttle Body Clean ??
from reviewing the Lexus service records on this 09' I recently purchased, I see that the dealership recommended "fuel induction service/clean throttle plate and carbon build up" to the previous owner but customer declined. So, first of all....anyone have an idea what Lexus charges for such a service? Secondly, is there a good DIY tutorial for this? only thing I could find here was on the the older V8's. Would like one on the 350 V6.
Thanks

i wonder if that means that your car didn't really need it yet? I'm at 75k and don't believe the previous owner has had it done. $250 for no noticeable difference isn't very tempting, lol

If someone can post a diy on this project it would be greatly appreciated.
Some say remove the tb to clean it thoroughly other say just to clean it as is. I personally would think it is better to remove the tb and clean is from both sides. I just don't know if the sealer/ gasket needs to be replaced after removing the tb. Any suggestions?

This is the easiest thing to do I would not pay the stealership to do it. Buy some throttle body cleaner and get the intake hose thats connected off and spray it a couple of times not to close but a few inches away. Then some use a brush I think a towel is ok to clean the dirt up. I will take some pics of process, unless someone else post pics up.

Paid an independent shop to do it for like $60 at 110,000 KM... worth it to avoid the time and mess to me. And yes, not like I could really tell any difference anyway. Probably not worth it unless the engine is in pretty advanced states of usage.

What is recommended to remove the entire throttle body and clean it from both side or just leave it
on and clean it as is. Also, is our MAF sensor located behind the throttle body ? I think that should
be cleaned too.

Well... When I took my car in to the dealer to get the VVT recall done, they also did their inspection on the car. That was a great convenience to me, but the prices for servicing were insane. I went ahead and cleaned the throttle body myself. Just grab a can of throttle body cleaner ($3-5) take off the air intake hose and spray the port. I used shop towels to wipe up all the carbon buildup and pushed the butterfly valve open and cleaned both sides of the plate. It makes a huge difference if you've never cleaned it and you're at 70k miles (10k more than I had got the car at). The carbon buildup can sometimes delay the valve which causes a noticeable feeling while accelerating. The whole process took about 10-15 minutes and the drive is much better afterwards. I also added fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank. Normally you won't have to do this if you don't pump gas at bad gas stations or if you pump premium as you're supposed to.

they charge TAX on the entire bill down in Texas?? I thought shops can only charge tax on PARTS...not labor. I know here in Oklahoma, they can only charge tax on parts sold. Their "posted labor rate" is simply multiplied by the number of book hours with OUT any extra tax.
As for "pushing open the butterfly valve".....i thought i saw where that can cause an issue on these "drive by wire" vehicles. Something to do with the ECU having to be reset or something. Anyone know anything about that??
