Default DIY- IS350 steering wheel swap

Hey everyone, this is my first, Diy thread so I'll do my best...ask away if I missed anything.
What you'll need: ratchet wrench, 10mm socket, 19mm socket, 6 in extension Philips screwdriver, T30 torx driver, wire cutters, wire strippers, heat shrink tubing, electrical tape, 22 Guage wire(preferably 2 different colors) a soldering iron, solder, and some mad skills

Before

After

Step 1: Steer the wheels straight forward, disconnect the battery
(Very important, you don't want your airbag going off) I recommend doing this with the key on, that will make it easier to remove some of the trim.

Step 2: remove the steering wheel. If your not sure how, check out utube, there's some good videos that detail what to do. Be careful not to let the clocksping move when the wheel is off, otherwise it will get damaged and your airbag light will be on.

Step 3: remove the two Philips screws and trim piece behind the steering wheel. This can be tricky, use a plastic interior tool to separate. It opens like a clamshell.

Step 4: remove all trim shown here

Including the center console, and the plastic door piece at your left foot.

From here out it gets real tricky.
Step 5: remove the wire from the cruise control switch out of your old wheel and de pin it

Now is when you'll want to make your new wires for the paddles, I used red and green. Give yourself about 4 feet, make sure to leave enough slack for the telescoping feature.

Disconnect this plug

Cut the purple wire

Splice in your red wire

Take your green wire and insert it into the open spot next to the yellow wire

Step 6: Disconnect this plug

Cut the yellow and orange wires

Run your red and green wires underneath the dash, tuck them out of the way so they won't be hanging around, I used zip ties. Then splice like so

Tape up each one with electrical tape and plug back in
Step 7: Cut the pink wire on the new wheels connector

Splice in your new pin and plug it into this slot on the new cruise control plug

Step 8: reinstall all trim, line up the steering wheel as strait as possible, you may need an alignment if it's crooked. reconnect the battery.

Step 9: have fun

Seems like a downgrade to me, but great thread and could be very useful for anybody that needs to do anything with their wheel.

Not really to the shifter more to the transmission.
Had to use an ohm meter, and I got a kick *** wire diagram from my buddy Mr Blageo, happy to help. And good luck with the 4gs swap, would love to see pics

But serious question, you must actually use the "manual" shifting to have gone through all the trouble? I have always found it the most useless feature of the car myself. =)

Agree. Just flip the switch to PWD and floor it. In PWD, just touch the brake and it down shift for you. And the most fun part is floor it again, the gear already down shifted so it just pull.

Don't need all that manual shift.

Very intrigued by having paddle shifters in the car!

Also, kudos for using shrink tubing and doing things the "right" way

That pic shows the dead button, what I didn't show was how i modified it to make it work until I could get the actual one
