Default 2011 Design Question

The design of the transmission shift gate appears to have been created with a function and/or purpose in mind as have most other engineered pieces in this car. I, however, am clueless as to that reason. Specifically, why is the half-oval shaped concave polished chrome relief area in place on the driver side of this shift gate? Yes, I realize it's a petty question but, frankly, it kind of bugs me not knowing. Thanks to all that share an idea.

Are you referring to the area that has "+M-" next to "D". Well if you are referring to that area, that is located on the driver side because it is used for user defined shifting. The automatic transmission switches to manumatic mode. Push forward to go up a gear and pull back to go down gears. If you then say, "Well, I have a gs450h and it doesn't have gears!" The 450h ecvt can simulate a 6 speed transmission.

Correct! It cannot simply be a "design", can it? The location, shape, and placement are all 'odd' compared to surroundings so it surely must have a purpose.

Ah my misunderstanding. That's a thumb reader. Just kidding! It looks like it's just a design element. Since it has no purpose it is art?

On my 2011 GS450h, when I shift into "S" mode, the 'gear' indicator illuminates.
