2006 GS300 or 07 GS350
I'm looking to get a Lexus GS by the time winter roles around.
I'm a little torn by engines. Ideally I'd get the 430 or 460 but I probably won't be able to find one in the $teens$ with less than 100,000 miles.
I was set on getting a 2006 GS300 until a good friend of mine who is a certified Lexus mechanic told me to avoid them because the 300s are known to eat oil like mother****ers.
But
The 300 engines have been around since the 90s, right? Since 2006 was the last year Lexus used them in the GS line - I assume all the kinks would be worked out.
Do you think I'll be ok with a 300 or should I hustle for the 350?
Does anyone have any experience with 300/350 engines? I have an RX330 now with 157,000 miles and it has never had any engine related issues in its lifetime.

Hi there, what I was told is GS350 is out to replaced GS300 if some improvement. I owned a GS350, love it, powerful and fuel consumption is about like Camry.
LEXUS are well known with their comfortable, features and sound proof.
I would recommended GS 350.
Feel free to contact me if you need any input.

The 2006 GS300's motor was a V6 used for only 1 year of production, not the same bulletproof I6 used in previous generation GS's. Your Lexus mechanic friend is absolutely right; the 2006 300 will eat oil. The 2007+ GS350 is a much better car, not to mention a much more updated navigation system.

GS 350 hands down, I've been hearing bad stuff about the 300. Tho don't think there arent any bad things(have a GS 350), just known about recalls that you should check on IF you don't buy it. Recent there was a post about their 350 eating oil.

Nope. I don't believe it. We all know the 350 was the pinnacle of Lexus engineering. A flawless automobile that never burned a drop of oil, spent any time in the dealer service bay, or caused its owners a moment of mechanical grief. In fact, the GS 350 magically averted all the corporate recalls, owing to its superior design and build quality. The GS 300 was a Kia Rio by comparison, and woe to those unfortunates who purchased their GS one year too early.

I would concur with staying away from the '06 300. I'm the original owner and just last week at 147k miles, I was informed by the dealer that my car needs a new tranny - for the low price of $5,200.
My first Lexus was a 400, and we put over 200k miles on it without any major repairs. I've been very disappointed in this model year and now wish that I had waited for the '07. You know how they say you should never purchase the first model year of a car? Well, I thought "this is Lexus, they're different..." - well, lo and behold, they're not!

That said the GS300 is the red headed step child. Apologies to all the red headed step children....

I picked up a 2007 GS350 AWD about 2 months ago at about 135,000KM. I got one without nav/rear view but it was the best condition one out of the bunch I checked out.
So far, really enjoying it. No major complaints and luckily (knock on wood) no drivetrain/engine issues.
