Auto light off fault

Auto light off fault
Hello,
Normally my head light turn off automatically when I turn off the engine and open the driver's door. Now, it works randomly which caused my bettery to be drained.
I feel that the sensor on the door does not trigger to tell the car to turn off the lights.
Looking for a suggestion before I goto Lexus.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I don't think its random, there's a set timing for it to turn off automatically. Although you are right about battery draining but it isn't that significant to even worry about it. I bypassed this half the time by hitting the lock button on the remote twice which turns it off faster, or you can just turn it off manually instead of leaving it on "auto."
The other half the time I park it in the garage and it gets pitch black so my headlights auto-on is handy for that part then shuts off assuming about a minute or so. It was hard to get used to since my wife's scion Tc and my old tundra had that auto-light off when you open the door.

If the door trigger is failing, it doesn't know that the door was opened after the engine was shut off so it assumes you are still sitting in the car, and leaves the lights on. I have heard of this issue on the LS, you may need to repair (if even possible) or replace the sensor if that ends up being the issue.
