Is it true that for the AWD version, you can unscrew the oil filter housing with simply a square 3/8" drive without using a special wrench tool like the rwd versions? I'm trying to decide whether to buy the oil housing adapter. Thanks

That is not true. It does have a 3/8 square for a ratchet, but that part unscrews separate from the housing acting as a drain plug for the oil filter. You do still need the special filter tool to change it.

Thanks for the clarification... So now I'm curious... What's the purpose of the drain plug then and when replacing the oil filter, do I need to take that apart? Wondering Lexus made the Awd version housing different from the RwD....
