2006 Lexus GS300 (Should I BUY?)
Hi,
I am new to the forum and would like to know if I should purchase a 2006 Lexus GS300 with 171,000 for $11,000? The car is the base GS300 and any advice will help.
Thank you,
DJ

No. It is never, ever a good idea to buy a 2006 GS. Just hold out and get a 2007-2011 GS 350. You'll find one, eventually. Even if you have to wait for one to sink to the $11K range, just wait.

Is 171,000 to many miles for that car? Also, does the vehicle require a lot of visits to the service station?
Thank you,
DJ

i had a 06 gs 300 rwd, (loved it) now own a 07 gs350 awd (love it more) I was getting the low oil light at around 80k...bad piston rings seals or something like that, luckily it was a recall, the tab would have been around 9k if it were out of my pocket... everyone on here told me to just go with the gs350 to start and I didn't listen but now I know why..

My own 2006 GS has 90K and according to the stealership requires the $6300 piston ring job. The one that Lexus gave to people as part of an extended 9 year CSP. Mine was diagnosed with carbon buildup and excessive oil consumption at 9 years and 4 months. Lexus denied me the free ring job they had given to so many others. For this reason, I am extremely disappointed with my 2006, the 2007 and up GS 350 is definitely a better bet.

God, yet ANOTHER GS 300 owner who got the free ring job. Everytime I see a new one I hate Lexus that much more. A $50,000 luxury car (in 2006 dollars, no less) should not burn oil at 80K. It's really more about the design defect issue rather than Lexus fixing it for free or making you eat the cost. This never should have happened in the first place. The fact that Lexus came out with a major engine update just one model year later proves that they knew damn well their 3GR-FSE was a loser out of the gate. I have to leave this forum, it's just so frustrating to be stuck with an expensive lemon.

Done that. Denied all the way up the chain. I was outside the 9 year window by the date it was put into service, which was apparently 8/05. They don't count model year. So if you had an early production 06, you were very unlikely to get under the 9 year window. It's all arbitrary nonsense, if they wanted to they could have accommodated me. Instead, they chose to antagonize a customer who will never, ever buy another Lexus and will keep complaining. It's especially infuriating to read story after story of people going "yippie! free engine rebuild at 110K!!"
