My 3GS is losing oil. Why???
#48
The 2006 are known to burn through 3-4 quarts of oil per 3,000 miles. I would advise him to change the oil instead of topping it off and bump the OCI to 3k instead of 5k.

Piston rings for sure !!
I had the same problem in the previous 4gr .. i have changed the whole entire engine now iam experiencing the same ****ing problem now in the new 3ge ... It losing 2 quarts every 700miles .. it's unbelievable.. now i will rebuild the same 3gr , so which rings i have to buy (open budget) to prevent this issue permanently?

Nice piston ring set you got there Lexus lol. Actual image from a parts site
Excessive oil burning is due to carbon build up which also affects piston rings. A replacement engine often has the same issue.

I used to only do 9K miles/year on my 2007 GS350 so I was changing oil every 3-4 months typically and still ended up with an oil burning engine by 90K. Now I'm at 125K miles and burning a quart every 600 miles it seems.

Possibly look into a Jasper remanufactured engine. They have a video on YouTube about making some improvements to the 2GR (well, the 2GR-FE, but hopefully the same to the FSE models) in terms of wider piston skirts with a teflon coating, and larger and more oil drain back holes in the pistons.
