Hey Guys,

I've been lurking on the forum for a few months now, and I must admit it is a treasure for any Lexus owner.

I've owned a 3GS for the past 5-6 months, and I'm very happy with the car.

However, last night I noticed a loud-ish noise coming from the engine, and now I'm not really sure if it's normal or I'm just being paranoid.
I've been doing some research, but I'm still not sure if that is the normal sound from the direct injection.

I'd be very grateful if someone can share their opinion/experience on this, as I'm still learning my way around the mechanical maintenance of the car.

The car has 98k miles on it.

sounds normal, in the 2nd video warmed up that area is where the high pressure fuel pump is, so will be louder. Have you checked your oil level since the fuel pump is driven by the camshaft

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I've checked it today, and there is plenty of oil. This car was never recalled, and it doesn't seem like it's burning oil (knock on wood).

I'm just surprised by myself, that I'd never actually noticed it before.

Normal. It's the side effect of Direct Injection on a lot of vehicles. Not only Lexus.

yep, if it kinda sounds like a diesel it's the high pressure fuel pump. I've heard some other GS and it's really hit or miss on whether or not it make the noise. Its considered normal though if it's present.
