Default Rough idle GS300

Hi All,

I'm new here and need some help.

I bought a 2005 3rd gen about 8 weeks ago and I love it except for one problem, a really bad idle/vibration through the cabin when cold starting, it improves when the engine is warm but is still noticeable.

It went back to the dealer where I got it and they gave it a full service, new plugs, oils and filters and replaced the transmission oil too after the check vsc and engine management lights came on.

The codes pulled showed a misfire on cylinder 2, the dealer said the service would cure all and sure enough no more vsc lights but the rough idle and vibration are persistent.

Any suggestions? The car has only 78000 miles and I'm pretty certain a Lexus isn't supposed to behave like this.

Many thanks

Carbon buildup? I'm not sure if you have the recall where you are, but I would mention it to them

Many thanks, where should I ask them to check for that in the cylinder or throttle body maybe?

I'm not really sure to be honest. I think carbon builds up on the valves? The fix is changing the pistons. I'm not sure, I'm not the most mechanically inclined guy

Pop open your hood and check to see which v6 engine is it that you have.

If you have engine code 3GR-FSE "direct injection" is prone to carbon buildup but if you guys in london receive the jap spec 3GR-FE "without direct injection" those engines burn clean.

The Jap spec is also the 3GR-FSE. Only certain parts of Asia and the Middle East are using the 3GR-FE motor.

Have them clean the heads and valves. It should be something along the lines of a Top engine cleaning. What they pretty much do is connect a bottle of solution into the intake and hold the vehicle at high RPM to "burn" the carbon build up on the piston and valves.
