Default New guy quick question

I just was debating on buying a lexus and comparing 2nd gen vs 3rd gen... I like the 3rd gen body wise but I like 2nd gens drive train... so does a 2jz swap into the 3rd gen easily? or has it been done? or what I assume is impossible..

thanks for the simple answer of yes or no its not possible haha

Yes you can install a 1jz or 2jz into 2nd or 3rd gen GS. 2nd gen are easier. But the 2nd gen is easier as the original motor is a 2jz ge

Why would you undertake such a swap? What is better about the old drivetrain?

1: HP stock is close to 350 and you can easily push that engine to 500-700hp reliably. There are street driven 1000-1500hp 2jz on the roads.
2: Many aftermarket goodies that are very cheap compared to tuning GS motor.
3: That engine is bullet proof very strong and reliable
4: engine as a whole is pretty cheap
5: that engine is super easy to wire up

The drivetrain should be able to bolt up or custom a housing to the stock transmission. But the fun happens with a stick shift.

Why waste all that money on a luxury car like the GS?

Because it's his\her money and he\she can do whatever he\she wants. I'm also tempted to do a 2JZ-GTE swap.

Too bad we never got the 2nd gen with the 2JZ-GTE.

wait are you going to change the transmission to a manual?

this is something I would love to do but from everyone I've spoken with the cost was prohibitively high.

Running automatic or manual is easy with a 2jz.

For transmissions you have many options, the most popular is the W58 handles up to 400hp (older supra) then R154 800hp (newer supra) then you have the V160 1500hp (latest supra 6spd) with strength you get increased prices.

All it takes to get the 2jz started wiring wise is 4 simple wires, this is why its great with many engine swappers and most popular swap.

To make it manual from auto youll need to source a clutch lever and master from an aftermarket like wilwood or maybe even an IS300. You may need the brake pedal aswell.
