Default 2000 gs 300 or 2006 gs 300

OKAY so I need help. I made an account just to ask some opinion from fellow lexus owners. I have a 2000 gs 300 platinum series…first car I ever bought high interest rate as I really didn’t know what I was doing, but ive been making my payments faithfully and im at about $6500. The car has 137,000 miles it was 98,000 when I got it. So my mom fixed a lot of things on it the water pump, timing belt, some oil leaks, and its been runnin good every simce. As of now I need a new key as mine is cracked and I need a door actuator, my cigarette lighter went out….and my kids broke the cupholder in the back…okay so that’s about it other than that it’s a nice car it’s the one that I wanted oh so bad and I went out and got it for myself. Came with rims and all that but I took them off..i prefer tires straight. So now here is my dilemma. I have the opportunity to trade it in for a 2006 gs 300 with 91,000 miles. Should I go ahead and trade it in or keep my second generation gs??? I have been doing a lot of research even asked my lexus mechanic and he told me that the one I have is actually built better than the 2006 as the drive train have many problems…however I have seen then 2006 gs 300 with over 200,000 miles still running…I want something newer as my car payment will stay the same. Also I am concerned with the value of my 2000. I owe 6500 now and I am worried that by the time I do pay it off the value will be even less. What should I do? I want the newer one, really I just like how it looks, but I do not want to get into trouble based off looks…what would u guys recommend? Also I just got new brakes on my 2000 but I also need front struts as they are leaking, never fixed em since I had the car. I could keep my 2000 gs but its going to cost a couple hundred I expect to fix all the little things I need, so I kinda just wanna start over u know? Sooo WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Ps I have seen the the 2006 have some issues with the fuel pump and things leaking… but I still like it  BUUUUT im concerned because there is more stuff to go wrong with the 2006 the push start etc…im used to old fashioned keys lol push start is new to me

I look forward to hearing from you all 

Just keep the 2000....run it to the ground and then buy a 2008+ gs350

run it into the groud...lol..well i mean im on my way. i can either put more money into this one and keep running up the miles or jump ship. thats my issue. i feel i can get something newer to keep. i dont know im alll over the place. id have to wait until i graduate to even think about getting a gs350, . i did read that they were better than a 300...

The 300 is a bit of a problematic engine.

Keep your car, the 06 300s are the least reliable 3GS it's not the 2jz like in yours, your car now can easily go 250-300k. I sold my 99 GS300 in November with 230k on it and I still see the guy I sold it to driving it around. I actually miss that car. Otherwise maybe try to find an 01-05 gs430. But you had to have overpaid on your car cause a 2000 GS300 with that many miles is only worth maybe 5 grand

I'd take a 2000 GS300 over a 2006 any day of the week. Wait a couple years and find a GS460

Ok ok I'm liking the feedback. Sounds like hands down I gotta keeper. I wouldn't trade for an 01 to 05 gs430 bc the body is the same as what I have already . I just like the body of the 06...but I can hold out for a gs460 with the body of the 1 i like now (the 2006). I did pay alot for my car..total was around 11k.....but if I can get 5k for it later that's cool. But as time goes on should i expect it to be much less?? I was thinking about getting my 2000 inspected and go from there. When I first got it i noticed on a certain part of this fwy going down hill the car feels like it brakes on its own....hydraulic brake booster came up during inspection but all I know it's been running good, decent. I want something different but I like my lexus cars, my mom had 3 while i was growing up so ig she spoiled me on them. Anyhow I came across an 07 gs350 115kmiles an 08 gs350 125kmiles & 06 gs430 250998 miles ....which sounds the best?

Since now I am convinced by you all the 06 gs300 is bad.

Skip the Gs300 altoghter and look into the 2006 Gs430 or go newer to a 460, as previously stated.

Let us know on your decision.

07 gs350 is a great car, but personally I would shoot for 08-up as youll get more option and a newer front end and rear bumper.

Great looking 2gs btw if you unloaded that thing on ebay it will sell for good money.

why thank you. I put it on craiglist for $6500 i have never tried to sell anything on ebay before, seems like a hassle and i think ebay may want their cut too lol no middle man....i wonder if i could sell it on here....asking $6500 as thats the pay off to be freed of my loan and get the pink slip.

If that was my car I would grab some lacquer thinner and a rag. Clean off those rub marks and throught the whole body, give the car a good wash n wax. Take good pictures, take a pic of any documents/repairs/repair history etc slap it on ebay for a buy it now $6900-7400 or best offer. I dont think it would last long!

Craigslist is good but youll get harassed by a bunch of dealers trying to buy it to flip it. Plus ebay the car will get coverage throught US. My 2 cents! Goodluck with your sale!
