Outrages GS300 Oil Change Cost

Jee, even $100 for a synthetic oil change is steep for me, even in Canada.
Mobil1 or Pennzoil synthetic comes on sale for $25 a jug at Walmart. and the Toyota oil filter is $11. So I'd rather spend $61 in supplies and DIY.
But I use conventional oil, so it works out to ~ $40 for my oil, filter and DIY.
I remember growing up those Mr. Lube places attached to Walmart chain stores used to offer oil and filter changes for $20. Amazing how a simple oil change has become a "dealership experience".

The price begins with the fixed and posted labor rate which many cities require for all repairs: the first hour or part is over $100. here, and $125. at premium shops. They mark up the retail price (not their cost) of the oil by 100%. That gets you close.
Finally, if you were a woman it's not $500 (which they would pay without blinking with their husband's credit card) because they can't get the computer to accept a special "F" code for cheating.
I take you now to the "muck-raker" era 100 years ago, where novelist Frank Norris immortalizes the price basis in "The Octopus":
Customer: "What do you base your rates on?"
Salesman: "I don't understand the question"
Customer: "There must be some calculation for how much money you charge for this service?"
Salesman: "All the traffic will bear"
