Glove compartment / Dash Rattle - FIXED!

Ok. So I've lived with the annoying rattle that seemed to come from inside the glove compartment, through the passenger side dash, and into the passenger side door, for YEARS. Always got worse when it was cold, and nothing I did (like stuffing insulation) made a damn difference.
And now the rattle is finally gone. No more. Nada. Zip.
Her'es how it went away: Suffering just about all of the common 3GS problems, I asked my lexus mechanic to look into the broken air cabin / circulation door which had gotten busted years and years ago by our independent family mechanic when he was trying to replace the air cabin filter (and didn't set REC button on the climate control). I asked the lexus mechanic if he could see if the swing arm was broken or (hopefully) if it was just off the tracks. Well, my mechanic took apart the unit enough to see that the plastic swing arm was indeed broken and the part promptly fell off when the lower dash was removed. He's now looking into finding the replacement part kit number (any help here folks??) and left the broken plastic swing arm piece out when he put the dash and glove compartment back together.
And that was it! It was the stupid broken swing arm piece - it was this little piece of plastic that had been rattling and had driven me crazy for YEARS. I used to drive with the glove compartment door open because that would actually get rid of the rattling. And now? I can drive in quiet and silence. I've driven around rough road, got a little aggressive in a parking lot to make sure and its really gone. Oh, and its been cold (relatively) here S. California so definitely should be rattling. Nope, nothing. I friggin LOVE IT.
Oh, did I mention that I currently have my rear view mirror removed because the glass is being repaired by radar-mirror.com? Between the rear view mirror and the air cabin door at least temporarily fixed, my car is ridiculously quiet. Just wanted to share my experience

I’m glad you’re finally rattle free. My GS doesn’t suffer from rattles but more like squeaks coming from under the dash. I’m afraid to take it apart for fear of making it worse. ![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Thanks for the reply! I will check with my Lexus dealer and see if they can get it for me. My RX was quite as a mouse and it only took one pot hole to start that annoying rattle! Again thanks Robert!!

I got the air circulation door fixed as well! Bought the part and had my mechanic install it.
