Symptoms of a bad PCV Valve:

The PCV valve hose at the valve side was oily and wet
Engine was consuming oil, at oil change at 6k I was missing close to a quarter.
Car was noticeable vibrating when stopped
MAF sensor was getting dirty more than usual.
PCV Valve hose was quiet rigit, I decided to replace it as well.
Wow! Been that long. But A good idea to change at some interval. I don't have that many miles on mine.

In 6 years I put around 15000 miles on my car, I love in the Caribbean very short distances here. But you are right, it should be changed every 20-30k aprox.

Our pcv valves are pretty reliable and tough, even if they get clogged you can clean them with carb cleaner. All it is, is a simple mechanical ball valve, aslong as that ball is freely bouncing around then the valve should be ok.

Im thinking as our cars are aging, there is need for an oil catch can system. This will allow to block off all the oil ports to the intake system. Keeping the intake system clean. Awhile back I pulled off my intake manifold to have my fuel injectors cleaned out. I noticed a lot of build up oil inside the intake manifold. So to block off/cap off all the ports that the crankcase flows into the intake would be helpful. My oil consumption is very low, im at around 230k miles and oil changes at 3,000
