All GS's 2006-2017 use the same exact piston rings! The induction design of the direct injection 2006's GS300 (US models) has a slight flaw in that the valves dont get washed by the fuel allowing carbon deposits to build up on the valves and pistons then eventually making its way to the rings. 2007-up with GS350 there have been a lot less oil consumption problems.
The reason for the 07-17 that have oil issues are most likely from poor maintenance and not taking extra steps. I use standard oil castrol GTX but I change my oil more often then what a person would do with synthetic oil. I also do induction cleaning, throttle body cleaning, spark plugs, and other basic maintenance. Im close to 170k miles and thankfully no issues on my 08 gs350 awd.
Also with the coolant its best to replace water pumps every 80k miles and fluid change.

I would highly disagree that this oil consumption problem is from lack of maintenance. I have an '08 GS350 currently plagued by this issue, and my vehicle receives constant attention from my local Lexus dealer. While changing the spark plugs and PCV valve can slightly decrease consumption, the only fix is to replace the piston rings. The dealer suggested that switching to Mobil1 could help, however, I'm not gung-ho to spend extra money on oil that will eventually be consumed.
I, too, have done an induction cleaning, cleaned the throttle body, and ensured everything else was in top-spec; to no avail.
This is a known defect that Lexus chooses to dismiss as "normal". Even my service advisor agreed that he has never heard of an "oil consumption test" until he started working for a Toyota/Lexus dealer ....

The problem is carbon gumming up the pistion rings, when the rings gum up they freeze inside the piston allowing oil to blow by. Maintenance, poor fuel, environment, bad pcv, etc driving to slow all can add up to building carbon. Lexus has recognized that the IS250, and 2006 GS300 have carbon issues and have rebuilt those engines.
You can remove all your spark plugs out and fill the combustion chamber with berrymans parts cleaner, acetone, or even seafoam. Let it soak overnight without starting the engine. Slightly turn the engine over by hand, and with compressed air blow out the berrymans fluids, change the oil and spark plugs. That should help free up those rings, and if you find the fluid draining quickly when you pour into the spark plug holes, know that piston rings are stuck.

All 3rd gen GS are direct Injection with the 2007 & up being direct and port injected.

Isn't a carbon cleaning recommend at a certain mileage? I know some other manufactures recommend it ... and what's the avg for gs350 . I debating about staying away front his car ...

My gs460 has almost 200k and no oil burning issues, obviously a different engine I'm wondering if lexus has changed anything with the 3.5 engine as I've yet to see any 4GS owners complain of oil burning and it's the same engine.

I think Lexus changed something in the later production of the 3.5L engine.

I do know later model IS250s had updated piston rings to help with the carbon buildup issue so perhaps they did something in the 3.5 as well, although it doesn't seem to be as common an issue.

They may have just gotten rid of the old piston rings for the early is250s and just sell the update don't ones now, my friend had his rebuilt and they had told him they put in updated piston rings that help prevent carbon buildup. But maybe they lied.
