Default after your car battery has been disconnected key fob is not being detected

My 2008 GS 350 has been sitting up in the garage for months and months with a dead battery. I just put a new battery in and the car doesn't seem to be detecting my key fob. Key fob battery is fairly new so shouldn't be a problem there. How do I get my fob working properly again?

start by checking voltage on key fob battery. a $5 harbor freight multimeter, set it to DC settings and check voltage.

2032 and 1632 both hold same voltages, just one has less capacity than the other.
