Default Replacement of auxillary agm battery on hybrid car

Hi there,
after great research I have discovered for educational purposes only that any AGM battery will work on hybrid vehicle GS450h.
Only problem was temperature sensor that new agm battery doesn't have.

But hey .No problem.i have used sensor from old battery and transfered to the new one.
Very simple task.will post some pictures too regarding this mode.

Default Step 2 very easy too.

Make sure you disconect sensor on battery ,and overflow tube .
after thar disconnected + and - terminals.
After that remove holding bracket.

This is replacement battery it's rated to 775 cca Oem has only 450 cca. I just put new battery on smart charger to get top voltage for couple minutes.1.4amp. slow charge .

Heat sensor must be removed from old battery to new one .here you have to be very careful not to damage sensor.

Here is you sensor .now I have use heat sensitive aluminum tape to reatachr sensot to new battery.

Closeup of the old sensor attached to top of the new battery.

Default Step 3

Secure battery inside and put terminals back.
plus and minus pay attention to polarity.

Make sure battery is not moving .support if needed with some shims or wood.

Overflow tube I left detached.

After double check all connection it's time to start a car. If you don't have any warrning light that mean u did good job and heat sensor is working. Enjoy and save money on hybrid aux battery. Remember this just for educational purposes only. After couple days my reading on cca was 1015

It’s dangerous not to connect the gas vent tube to the battery when the battery is in the trunk.

sorry for late reply 703 ,just to refresh yor mind here we are talking of AGM sealed battery .This particular model was approved for using in the motor vehicles and not all AGM batterys have venting port.
I am using still same batterry and Last measurements was showing about 870 CCA .I am so happy with this mod for the fraction of cost compared to dealer
I did also some random battery test ...voltage,CCA,shoc etc etc and all of parametars were ok in my testing.
Sign "Battery Good " it shows every time now .after about 30 000 km still working fine.So i dont see any danger for me .All of this I am doing for educational purposes only and also to show designers of lexus new alternative.

Hi there,
I was looking around who got great price on AGM battery GROUP 35,which is for Lexus 2010 RX450h hybrid. After research was done I bought Energizer AGM battery ,12.8 volts was my reading and it has about 694 CCA.Price was $179 plus core $10 ,which you get back when you return old battery.

Same size like my old PANASONIC BATTERY AGM.But had double more cold cranking amps CCA 650 rated.,measured 694CCA.

Not bad price ,too.

This was my OEM battery which failed after 12 years.Dealer wanted about $600 for replacement. So didn't have much choice than to go aftermarket AGM battery replacement.

What can I say, direct fit no tray or bracket modification.I was happy that I got something better than OEM.

Regarding venting ports this is what I was using. From old battery I pulled out 90 deg.elbow and I found some Plastic screw kicked around my toolbox

From both sides of the new battery I saw venting ports .I did use 5/16 drill bit and some glue to fit 90 deg elbow ,because original port opening was to small for my elbow.

This was very easy to do ,just watch how deep you go inside venting port.I hope it will be ok for venting in my case.

On the other side I was lucky to get screw right size like venting port ,so I did pluge this side My previous battery for my GS 450h didn't have any venting ports and after 5 years now I got only 350CCR from originally about 900 CCA.Cold weather will eat CCA during time.

Before battery was connected to venting tube I did pulled out tube and clean to make sure there is no restriction in air flow .

The other side by plus terminal was blocked with plastic screw .Hard to see under my yellow and red accecories wires.

This was the elbow from old battery removed to the new one

Here you can see label from old Panasonic battery from RX450h ,it has only 356 CCA comparing to the Energize r New battery having over 650CCA.

Here is new one rated 650 CCA and MEASURED AT 694CCA.amazing how guys after market meet and exides req for this Lexus.

One more thing old Panasonic battery in this truck didn't have a heat sensor attached to battery like on my GS 450h. So only mod I did was venting ports ,because this manufacturer made ports compering to the other.

This another AGM battery from GROUP 24F,for Lexus GS but I am checking measurement .this will be next project. To be continued.......
