Default Aftermarket tire pressure sensors?

Hey guys. 2006 GS 430 with 163,000 miles. Original TPMS sensors. I just had one go out and for the last several weeks the display has been reading low tire. Today, the display changed to check system. In either case, I'm pretty sure one of my sensors is bad. I just called a local tire shop, just tires, and they told me they can diagnose and replace the faulty sensor with one of their aftermarket sensors for $80 all in. That sounds reasonable to me. Does it matter that it's not OEM?

So this is the craziest thing. The low tire warning has been on for about 2 weeks now. I've tried everything to get it to turn off, including lowering the tire pressure in all 4 tires, resetting the sensors with the button under the dash, and then refilling the tires. In fact, I've probably reset the sensors at least 10 times, nothing.

So as I mentioned, today while I was driving, the "low tire" warning changed to "check system." Now the last time this happened, it was because my son's backpack had accidentally depressed the button under the passenger footwell changing the sensor system from main 1 to main 2. That wasn't the case here. Anyway, when I got in my car this afternoon and started it up, the "check system" warning was still present, so for whatever reason, I decided to go ahead and try to reset the sensors again. This time, I engaged the emergency brake and hit the reset button, the warning light blinked 3 times like it's supposed to, the "check system" warning came back on, and I drove away. About 3 minutes later, voila, all of the lights and warnings went away.

It will probably come back on at some point, but it's nice to be able to see the outside temperature once again in the message center.

Yeah, my check system light went off after I reset the button. But like you, I tried that method several times without success yet it worked after some random try. Strange...

And how long has it been okay for you now?
