Default Muffler Delete & Electronic Cutout on 3GS questions

Hi, I have a 09 AWD GS350 and I want to delete my mufflers but keep the resonator to avoid drone. I’m also reading I should add an electronic cut out so I can drive quite & loud when I want.

Does anybody have this setup I mention?

Should I delete the Resonator if I add a cut out?

Does the cut go after the cat and o2 sensor and which brand would you guys suggest?

Will I have a lot of drone with no muffler or no muffler and Resonator?

I’ve had this car for 3 years now and it’s so quite and I hate it. My stock 98 GS400 sounded so much better, and I know it’s V6 vs V8 but I miss a little sound.

I’m on a budget and I haven’t priced it out yet, but I wanted to hear what other 350 3GS owners have done and if I would hate it before I do it.

I really like the HKS exhaust from the clips I’ve watched, so I’m going for that sound. I’ve watched some clips of RC’s & IS’s that sounded pretty good with muffler deletes. I only found 2 clips with V6 3GS and I really couldn’t tell if I liked it due to the sound quality.

Not sure about the GS350 because I have a GS430 and I did the muffler delete. It sounds really good but, you are going to have some drone. Drone is pretty loud at low rpms. If I were to do it over again I would just get 2 magnaflow 14829 mufflers. I did a post on both (muffler delete and e-cutout) subjects, here are the links: Muffler Delete and E-Cutout

Pretty cool to mount cut outs in between the larger and mid mufflers. If you wanted it louder, you can mount the cut out right after the cat. Heres a couple of vids I seen on youtube

Yeah I’m really worried if I cheap out, that I will hate the drone. What are these Magnaflow 14829 mufflers about, have your heard them on a Lexus and will they still sound good on a V6?

Nice clips, would you still add a cut out if I go with mufflers? Do you know of a good quality reliable cut out with a remote setup like that? Do I only need one?

Also what size round tip will fit in our factory bumper? I like the larger size ones maybe a 4” if possible, will that fit?

You will need to run 2 cut outs, because it is a dual exhaust system. If it were my car, I would keep the exhaust all stock and do the cut out like that first video in between the mufflers. I do not know which brands are good, but look on ebay theres several on there and find what fits your budget.

As far as tips, I replaced my stock oem tips for used pair of honda s2000 ap2 tips, they just fit the car a lot better (wider, bigger) and fill out the 3GS bumper. They are not round more oval but if im not mistaken they maybe at 4" or more.

So I called a exhaust place that does quality work from the reviews I’ve read. He specializes in newer model American cars and muscle cars. He said he does cutouts all the time but he only does the exhaust work, he doesn’t do wiring for power or cable run for manual. He said $100 per side.

Where do you tap into for power? That kinda worries me,seeing there’s a chance the cutout could be defective. I could probably send some type of power to it before for testing but then I need to take it somewhere to get wired which will be a pain and more money. I don’t want to tap into something under the car myself and cause an issue.

What size is the factory muffler piping, 2.5?

I also live in a cold weather state, could these potentially rust shut, or even freeze?

I like the AP2 tips a lot, where could I get a set in a black finish? I can only find one used pair on eBay?

Also if I end up going with mufflers instead of the cutouts, where can I purchase HKS power axel back muffler set, and is it different or does it need to be fabricated for an AWD?

$100 per side is a bit pricey just to weld in 2 pipes, try to find another muffler shop that will give you better rates. Its not rocket science to cut out a section and weld in a small pipe on the cut out.

As far as wiring, you can run a single wire from the battery to the switch on the cut out, and the ground you can look for a nearest ground bolt to tie into. If you do not know how to run power wires, you can take your car to a small stereo install shop and have them do it for you for cheap. Or you can find a "hot rod" shop that can weld and do basic wiring as a 1 shot shop.

I believe the tubes are 2.5" but its best to grab a tape measure and measure the tubes. Even if your tubes were 2" and the cut out is 2.5" a good muffler shop can swell your oem tube edge to make it fit.

Certan brand of cut outs have block plates if you are worried about dirt clogging them up. You can just slip the blank plate over and use 3 screws to cap it shut. But many cars from factory nowadays come with factory cutouts. I wouldnt be too concerned about it!

AP2 tips only come in chrome, you can sand them, prime and then paint them. The tips are oem factory for Honda S2000's so finding a new pair, you can go to the honda dealer and order them new, or go for a clean used pair like what i did. You will need to replace one small bolt with a slightly longer bolt to make it fit to the lexus.

I dont know much about brands of exhaust, I think the RWD and AWD are the same from the catback. But the mid section of both differ from each other. You might want to research this before buying. Look up ebay, amazon, for exhaust systems. Personally I think buying a catback will be a better option for you, as it is easier to just purchase a tanabe catback for $350 unbolt your old cat back and bolt in the new one. If you get tired of it you can always bolt back on the factory exhaust.

I currently have MF mufflers on my car with 2 Cat deletes. Good sound no drone unless its really quiet and youre listen for it. Nice and loud at High RPM.

What is the part number for the mufflers?

Did you delete the resonators?

I’m not sure how many Cats our cars have, if they have more then 2, which ones did you delete?

What kind of tips are those?

Any more clips you have recordered?

3gs only Has one Resonator, but no it's still there. I have no idea. They were at the shop. The tips are 4 inch openings.
Also our car has 4 Cats. I deleted the ones on the mid pipe. So the ones closest to the engine are still there. Other than that it's custom welds. The next plan for me is to replace the pipes with wider pipes. Cause I currently have to same size pipes. And in turn the Resonators will be probably cut off. If I had too I could always get it put back. No other clips really. Do you want an in car video cause I could make one. I need too

Yeah a in car video would be nice, maybe an acceleration video.

Is there anyway you could find out part numbers on both the tips and mufflers? The muffler being the most important seeing MagnaFlow makes a lot of mufflers.

My Instagram is @januarysvryown has an old accelerate video. But I'll definitely make more when I get to it. As far as part numbers probably not. I just bought what he had in shop and the tips aren't branded. The muffler I just asked for good flow less drone lol idk have to ask him on a day off.

I just watched your clip. Yeah let me know if you can find out about your tips & mufflers, because just buying any MF muffler might end up sounding completely different.

My Christmas gift from my girl is exhaust so I need to figure this out, lol.

Haha I hear you. All I can say for sure tho is they are the oval shaped magnaflow. The tips may be generic. I been searching 4 inch tips online and nothing lol as for as the muffler a couple look like mine. Has a backside pipe to the back and the front opening is in the middle here's a couple old pics I have.
