Default 06 GS 300 fuel leak

My son has a 2006 GS 300 that developed a fuel leak on the fitting that feeds the high pressure mechanical fuel pump. The leak is on the "push/pull" connection where the flexible line connects to the rigid fuel line that supplies fuel to the high pressure pump fuel. I was able to get the leak to stop by disconnecting, reconnecting the fitting. In an effort to monitor the leak my son felt around the fitting and found it dry. On the following start up the fitting began leaking again. I suspect that by feeling around he may have disturbed the fitting enough to make leak again. I was able to get it stop again but I know that the fitting shouldn't do that and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately the entire "fuel tube assembly" needs to be replaced @ $250+. My question is has anyone had any similar experience with these type push/ pull type connection fittings. I do not have much experience with these type fittings. Any input appreciated.
Thanks!

Below is the parts breakdown of what I am talking about.

That part number comes up as 23901, but when I google searched it shows that it fits camry aswell. Might want to check to see if its the same, if it is, its only 54 bucks online

I ordered a new one for just under $200. But I am still interested to hear if anyone has had experience with this fitting beginning to leak out of the blue. I did no maintenance that would have put any pressure on either fuel line or fitting. Thanks

It's a 13 yr. old vehicle. Plastic/rubber parts only last so long. It could be related to the conditions that particular car has seen, or the climate of the area, if it was garage kept, etc. Not sure if this is a common Lexus failure or not, but a lot of factors could have been involved with why it failed now.

Fair enough the car is older and did sit for a some time in the past. Just seems to me that old school hose clamp connections were pretty reliable and cheaper to fix.

I wonder if theres an o-ring inside that failed, and not the hose itself.
