Default 30+ MPG highway in my 2008 GS 350 AWD

I am amazed at the good mileage that "Lucky" gets on the highway. In the city it gets around 19-20 mpg. But we took it on the highway for the first day trip. We drove 198 miles and got amazing gas mileage. During the first part of the trip, when the top speed was below 60 mph, we averaged 33.0 mpg for our first 42 miles.

The next part of the trip had a top speed of 70 mph and I saw our mileage per gallon drop quite a lot. By the end of the day, we had traveled 198 miles and our average for the tank of gas so far was 30.3 mpg. Pretty freaking amazing for a 4,000 lbs car with a 300 hp engine.

Curious to know - what kind of gas do you use premium or regular and did you do anything special to get this high mpg? This is very good.

Unbelievable! I would not touch the car at all for maintenance, so you dont jinx the mpg's. Also are you sure youre not driving on down hill slopes most of the time?

Default No surprises

I was using premium gas; a fill up from Costco a week earlier and a top off of 3 gallons from a BP station right before we got on the highway. The first part was a drive from Columbus Ohio to Chillicothe. The second part was from Chillicothe to Jeffersonville then back to Columbus. I joke that I drive like an old man but this performance makes me think that I really do drive that way. But I did floor it a few times. Lucky me.

I love this car! I am driving a 2019 camry rental for work now and i get a headache everytime i go on along trip! The quietness and smoothness of the gs350 cannot be found in any other car!

When I first bought my car used in 2017, I was averaging 32.0 mpg on highway (avg speed 70-74 mph). After I changed the spark plugs, mpg dropped to 31.0. I only run premium, mainly Costco gas. If you continue with what you have, you will average 30-33 mpg on highway. It really is a great cruiser with pretty exceptional mpg on highway.
You really are "Lucky"!

I've never seen the Trip Information screen in my GS. I actually went over the owners manual just now and couldn't find it. How do you access it? Maybe it's a function for USDM cars only.

Good morning. Here is the way to get to that screen. Hit the INFO button and a screen will be displayed. There is a TRIP INFORMATION button in the upper left corner of the screen.

This is described (poorly) at page 21o of the Owner's Manual.

Happy driving.

Thanks for the reply Hugh. I tried to lookup the page you mentioned and couldn't find anything related to trip info. Then I decided to check the manual for a 2008 GS (mine's a 2011), and sure enough it's in there! So this must've been a feature on the older infotainment systems, but not on the newer ones. I was under the impression that they were essentially identical with a few very minor tweaks being made over the years. I can't believe they would've taken that feature out. Usually they tweak by adding features not removing them.

I also like the dark look much more than the light gray in the newer ones.

Edit: Based on the manuals, the 2010-2011 have the "updated" infotainment with the gray screen and fewer features

Well that stinks. It is a useful feature. It is the default screen when I drive (that is when I don't just turn the screen off).

I get about 29.x mpg on the highway, but I drive at faster speeds with traffic. 75MPH is probably my average out on interstate highways..I am on Costco premium. All maintenance recently performed-- everything except transmission fluid and rear diff has been done (never touched). 60K mile service was done, though I am at only 55K miles on the car. Tires are 245's with about 37 PSI in each. mine is an 08 GS350 RWD.

What kind of tires are you running and at what pressures?

No Shell. Always Costco (super convenient to me and I'm an employee). I just got the car at the end of May. One road trip, but mostly Costco gas on the trip. Nice looking GS350!
