Thinking of replacing my rear wheel bearings in the next few weeks and noticed rockauto gives you the option of purchasing just the wheel bearing ($64) or the the "wheel bearing & hub assembly" which starts at a higher price point. I'm assuming that if you only get the bearing you can remove the hub assembly and take it to a machine shop and have them replace the wheel bearing......anyone ever done this? Any cons to going this route?
End up ordering both rear wheel bearing assembly (Timken) from rockauto.com. Replacing them was a PITA, but I'm glad I can check this item off my to-do list. I've now replaced all four bearings (all Timken), which appears to be the OEM supplier for bearings to Lexus. I went ahead and replaced both rear rotors and rear pads.
