Default TPMS light ONLY when traveling (not local driving)

Should I replace my TPMS sensors with my upcoming tire change on 08 GS350 w134k miles?

My TPMS light ONLY comes on when I am driving on a long distance trip of more than 40+mins. Sometimes it comes on at 45mins into the trip, sometimes it’s 2hrs, 3hrs etc.
it does not come on for local driving, although I do similar driving times locally. My work location is typically 25 mins drive, mostly highway, sometimes I work in other locations about 45 mins away. The light does not come on locally. It only comes on when I am on these trips. I take 7hr trips about every 2-4 weeks.

The symptoms makes me think that the batteries are going dead. My tire pressure is always fine.

Do you think it is normal for the batteries to die around this age?
I am not sure how to interpret the results from the scan tool for TPMS. My light was not on while it was being scanned.
Should I just go ahead and buy new sensors?

Weird that your are able to get a tire psi, this tells me the sensors are all working properly. Would be nice if you could use the scanner and scan the sensors when it acts up.

10+ years is a lot for batteries, if you do install new ones. I would use a good quality sensors like denso, and avoid cheapy china sensors.

Being that they all throw the code at a certain point, could it be something else? Like the main module receiver?
Or would it be a good idea just to go ahead and change them?

Try unplugging the battery for a short period and see. It is possible a tpms module could be acting up. But like I said, its best to have the scanner with you, and when it acts up you can scan it.

If youre going to replace the tires I would replace them, rockauto.com has denso for $32 each

How do you program the tire sensors? Is there any that come pre-programmed?
Do I need special tools to program them or can they be programmed by me?

Dealer, they usually charge 1/2 hour labor, certain tire shops, or I am not 100% certain but you maybe able to do it yourself with a techstream.

Thanks, I called Discount Tire and they say that they would program them included in their cost of tire installation, which is already cheaper than other tire places.
