I have an 08 GS460 and it still has the factory Mark Levinson system. And just recently the sound stopped when playing CDs. You can look and see the CD is still playing but no sound is coming out. Sound works just fine for radio or anything else though. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Sounds like your amplifier in the trunk is bad, this is common on the ML system. I believe theres some shops that repair them.

Does the same to my wife's car, it's random too. Hoping it's a loose wire or something simple.

Definitely the AMP. Like ibidu1 mentioned, there are some independent shops that will repair them for a fraction of the cost of replacing with a new amp, so definitely look into those. Another option is going to http://www.car-part.com/ and doing a search for the part in salvage yards. I've used this site for several parts in the past, and never had any issues working with the places listed. My wife's Cayenne's stereo is cutting in and out due to a failing Bose amp, and it's very aggravating.
