Default Auto wipers Malfunctioning

Hello! I recently joined the Lexus family with a 2007 Lexus GS 350 and have loved every second of ownership with it. I have had no issues with it... up until it rained. I decided to try out the auto wipers it comes with as there was not enough rain for the “medium” setting. When I turned them on, I made sure the sensitivity dial was on the highest so that they would wipe with minimal rain on the windshield but they did not come on at all. I waited a little while and sure enough, a few minutes later they came on the fastest setting for 5 wipes, then slowed to the slowest setting for 3 wipes, then they turned off and did not sense any rain on the windshield. I also did this when it was not raining and the same issue occurred.

I have been all over the forums and could not find anything on this issue. I’m wondering if I have a bad sensor or if it’s deeper than that. I have tried to unplug the sensor to turn my auto wipers to intermittent but this did not work as the auto wiper setting did not wipe. Just posting this to see if anyone has had the same issue or a possible fix for this. I’d preferably like a solution that doesn’t involve buying a new sensor for ~$190 but if it needs to be done.. so be it. I appreciate any help!

Had a similar problem when I bought my 2008 GS350 a few years ago...not properly sensing the rain and operating the wipers. Turns out that when the windshield was replaced previously, the installer did not replace the gel pad between the sensor and the glass. I got a new pad from the dealer and the installation was simple. The rain sensor and wipers have since worked properly.
