Default license plate holder in the trunk

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a license plate thread things that is located on the backside of the trunk. I accidentally sheared off the head off my license plate bolts and tried to extract them but ended up drilling them cause the extractor was doo doo. If not, how would be the best way to attach the plant the the back of the trunk without drilling new holes and achieve an OEM look?

The things in the red circles is what im looking to replace

Thank you

I can suggest two options, first is the cheap and easy is to buy some license plate nut inserts. That would allow you to use the course screws. Or second is to run nutserts, you will need a special tool to insert the special nuts that lock into sheet metal. Tool isnt expensive and super easy to use. You will need to use regular machined screws, and its probably what oem is.

I have the same situation. And I am a 2nd owner. Looks like the original owner had issues prior. My right side nut has been cut off and it’s rusted. My left side I snapped the bolt head off when I decided to change my plate holder/frame. Bad idea in the middle of winter.

I started to drill out the bolt that’s left in there but it’s extremely stubborn. Wasted 2 days with easy outs. No luck yet. I realized these nuts may just be secured by a double sided tape. So I am in search of some fishing line and going to hopefully cut through it.

Did you ever make a fix to yours?

Edit: Fishing line snapped right away, realized these but are somehow welded to trunk lid.

You may be able to go on www.car-part.com and get a new trunk lid.

is the whole holder gone after drilling? is there anything you could just use a tap on to cut new threads?

I actually made some progress. On Left side, Drilled all the way through. I ended up going up 1 size and tapped with M7x1.0. Wish I could have kept the M6, because I have been looking all over for some sort of bolt that shouldn’t rust and M7 makes it nearly impossible. May to up another size to M8. Not going to touch the right side until I have left side secured.

Before drilling and tapping

The holder is a metal nut all the way through. And it’s somehow spot welded with no evidence of it actually being welded.
