clean the carbon buildup if possible. I use Castrol EDGE 5w30 and every 5k oil change no problems at all. Its at 123k mls and solid.

5k miles or km? 5000 km is good, but 5000 miles I think your are risking failure. The majority of 2006-2011 GS owners that ive seen with oil consumption issues will put synthetic oil and run them 5-7000k miles. Synthetic oils are really good, maybe too good. They coat the engine walls and stick on there very well creating a good film strength. But what happens to synthetic oils is that when the cars are not driven enough, that coating turns into a crystal crust, that stains the metal brown. Over time those crystals get lodged and block oil ports.

Thats my theory into it

I do 8000km (5k mls) and mine doesnt use oil? My mum has this car for over 10years and we only use Fully Synthetic Castrol. Check your VVti valve aswell they tend to burn oil.

Hi all. I'm also new to the forum and have recently acquired an 06 GS300 with approximately 98000 miles.

With regards to the oil consumption issues, if I were to go to a heavier oil eg 10w30 to 20w50 will that reduce the oil consumption?

I still have to try the seafoam. And I've see another toyota top engine cleaner product.

I've recently had to change out the full ac components, full front suspension and now I have some oil leaks to get sorted. I've had the car for 3 months now and not yet enjoying it mainly because of the extent of repairs.

Before you change the oil pour in a 1/3 of seafoam into the oil, and drive for about 300 miles. I would replace with 5w20 I would not go thicker as that would make things worst. If you have an oil leak I would address that first as your oil consumption, if its an easy job replace whatever is leaking.

The 06 GS300 is the first year and it does have its issues, but if you take good care of it they can last 250-300k miles. I would also log onto mylexus.com and look up its history to see if its had the carbon engine rebuild preformed on it. If it hasnt had it, I would run seafoam or some sort of induction cleaner through the intake manifold vacuum port to do a top engine cleaning of the intake valves.

Thanks for your input.

In terms of priority

1 Fix oil leaks (tappit cover gaskets and oil piples located at the front of the engine)
2. Use seafoam and top engine cleaner
3. Try using a lighter body oil

Unfortunately I'm not located in the US (located in Trinidad WI) and my GS came in from England.

Are you all into strictly Lexus oem parts or do you purchase after market brands. I'm in the market for a pair of front lower ball joints.

Except for the least important items like bulbs and wipers, I recommend OEM parts. Especially for all the drivetrain and powertrain components.
