gs430 2006 p0751 and p0761
hello everybody, how are you
I hope someone can please please help
I just bought a GS430 RWD with 67k original miles 6 months ago, going over budget because Lexus don't break down, well 6 months later the mechanic said I need a new transmission. But with TechStream i got these codes:
P0751 Shift Solenoid "A" Performance or stuck OFF
P0761 Shift Solenoid "C" Performance or stuck OFF
I began to notice the problem a couple of days ago, from time to time the gears wouldn't engage especially the first gear and other times the car it's just fine. I took the car to a mechanic and he said I need a rebuilt or a new transmission.
I want to know if there any other solutions to these problem.
Thanks.

I would drop the transmission pan and put a new filter and replace the transmission fluid. Becareful of shops that randomly tell you, you need a transmission rebuild. This car has only 61k miles and more likely its been sitting and not used most of its life, so more likely fluids have degraded, and because the transmission isnt used often the shifter solenoids get frozen or bind. Also a good transmission shop can buzz test the shifter solenoids with a good scan tool. You are able to replace shifter solenoids, when you drop the pan you can swap them out. Not sure why they would tell to rebuild the whole transmission other then to make profit from you.
My suggestion find another transmission shop or even a good honest mechanic that will properly diagnose it. Worst case I wouldnt rebuild the transmission but slap a used one in. Rebuilding oem transmission with all aftermarket parts, doesnt seem wise when you can probably find a used good transmission for $400-1,000 and swap it in one day, vs waiting for a shop to rebuild you transmission in hopes he doesnt screw something up.
