Figured this is as good a place as any to introduce myself, I just pulled the trigger on a 2009 GS300 (we didn't get the GS350 here in Thailand apparently). I think it's a Smoky Granite Mica with the Cashmere Leather interior. It does have the Mark Levinson sound system, but I'm slowly trying to figure out the other options that it came with beyond that. Previous owner made an upgrade to 20" wheels and apparently painted the brake calipers red. So it does remind me of my Boxster S from 20 years ago with a very similar color scheme. 😉
Literally, just picked the car up today with 173520 KM on the clock (just over 100K miles) so will be taking it into the local Lexus dealer for a comprehensive checkup. Not really planning to do much it just yet, but I'm sure that I'll get some inspirations from my fellow GS owners out there. Do plan to upgrade the head unit soon, was wondering if any other GS owners have bit on that Carsoll (or any other brand?) Tesla-style 12-inch Android dash screen? The benefits look awesome and would like to hear from others before making the move.
Do look forward to getting to know my fellow members out there around the world and looking forward to being a part of the club!
Welcome! Thailand... just awesome. I've actually been watching A LOT of CB Media videos on YouTube ("Chad Bee"). If you haven't seen his videos, you must check them out. His videos are mainly car/motorsport enthusiast videos of the "scene" in Thailand. Very impressive scene there in Thailand. Lots of great GREAT cars and mods there--so many engine swaps. I am sure you know this, though. Do check out CB Media if you aren't already aware. Do I want to go to Thailand? Heck yeah! I can see a visit to Chang Mai/Rai and Pai at some point soon (cooler/mountains/the loop), but probably after pandemic-related craziness settles down. Enjoy the ride! Where are you in Thailand?
Thanks guys! Haven’t heard of CB, will certainly check it out! I’m in Bangkok, so not too good at the moment with a semi-lockdown in effect.
Yes, the car scene here is insane. Very creative, I’ve seen a lot of Mercedes and Ford Mustangs where they just dump a Toyota engine in there to make it easier to maintain, among other ideas. Labor is cheap, comparatively, so a little budget can go a long way sometimes. And because of the stupid taxes, most imported cars cost way more (3X) than there equivalents stateside, so they need to be real creative to manage some of the costs here.
Up North is pretty nice, if not for the current situation. It’s a different style from BKK and the South, so makes for some nice variety and usually some cooler weather too.
CB Media has been in Bangkok since 2017, I think, maybe in the On Nut area now. Anyway, he has gotten to know a bunch of car guys there. He just "bought" (?leased?) a race track somewhere around Bangkok.
I see some Lexus V8 engine swaps here and their but tons of 2JZ's swaps. The GTR scene there may be the best in the world? The cars certainly costs more there due to the taxes..like 3x the price, as you say.. so you see Supras and GTRs going for like $300-400K+ USD. Insane.
Have fun with the GS. Will be interesting to see if you wind up doing a ton of mods to it.
