I recently bought a gs350 awd with 200k on the clock. The car runs excellent, but it burns oil significantly. My estimate is a Quart somewhere between 100-300 miles. There might be a valve cover gasket leak but I have not looked into it more closely yet. There are no puddles under the car so i think it's safe to assume the cast majority of the oil that disappears is being burnt.
I'd like to keep the car for as long as possible. What are my options? From my research it appears that the culrpit may be carbon clogged piston rings.
Does anyone know if i am doing further harm to my engine by driving it daily with this much consumption? I check my oil every couple of days and never let it go below the low line on the dipstick. Will the burning get worse over time if i never let it drop below minimum?
Eventually i would like to have the rings replaced if that's all that's necessary to fix the problem, but considering the expense it won't be a while until I can do that.
Does anyone knowledgable have any experience/opinions?
Thanks in advance!
How is it running otherwise the oil consumption? You could try replacing the pcv. I used a crows foot to access it since it’s a little tight. Other than that, just keep checking the oil level every fuel fill up and change your oil at 3k miles.
x2 on the PCV valve, its cheap and easy. However, this is one of those issues where you might want to take it to the dealer and pay them to do the diagnostics /quote instead of trying to read up online. As per the manual:
