I have a 2008 GS 350, although I have damaged abs sensor issues which happened during rear hub change out. I have the abs, vsc, brake warning lights on with the EPS (electric power steering) warning light coming on and off sometimes. All the warning lights came up after the hub change out, there was no issue prior to that.
The steering became stiff and really strong to turn after I attempt to use the scanner described in the title to do zero point recalibration thinking recalibration could make the EPS light go off. The recalibration attempt failed, the EPS light didn't go off and the wheel became so stiff.
I scanned for codes, no codes apart from the ABS related codes, I checked fuse under the driver side dash, it was intact.
After reading through many threads online, I began to ask if the scanner could have damaged my EPS ECU.
Please Help!!!

NO, the power steering didn't malfunction after the hub change. Power steering was still working. The power steering stopped working after I attempted to use the scanner to do a zero point calibration of the the steering.

Do you have the special wire, and software to run techstream diagnostics? You can buy them cheap off ebay for $20 bucks or less. You can try the steering calibration with that or bite the bullet and take it to the lexus dealer or toyota dealer if there prices are better.
I dont think you killed the ecu, I wouldnt stress that. Sounds like its software issue, so more likely you will end up paying for 1 hours worth of labor.

Finally I was able to resolve this issue using the same scan tool. It calibrated the steering wheel angle senor. I simply follow the instructions from the scan tool, I probably haven't been doing it right since. My car steering works fine now and the eps light is off. My thanks all for your help.
