Default GS300, what mileage is too high?

Hello all,

The ES300 that was given to me has kicked the bucket, and now I'm on the hunt for another Lexus, I found a gs300 sold by a dealer with the right price, BUT its sitting at 145k miles on the odometer, is that too high? they do have the service book stamped up to date tho, let me know what you think!

Here is the listing : https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...21298178/?Cr=3

No replies so I will chime in. I purchased a Gs 430 w/ 97k. I went to the Toyota Stealership and had the tranny drained, flushed and refilled along w/ the differential. Purchased a timing kit, plugs & had a private shop install. However, 15 k later I need to send the ECU in and have them work on the (TCM) Transmission Control Module. I would suggest the above if buying a car w/ high mileage. Oh, let's not forget the Alternator and a new radiator. This is what you have ahead of you. Hope this helps.

The GS300 would have the 3GR-FSE motor, which is a direct-injection only (D4) fuel system setup. That has generally required a bit more maintenance than port- or port- and direct-injection motors, as no fuel passes by the backs of the intake valves and they tend to build up carbon deposits. The required maintenance would be to remove the intake and manually clean or walnut shell blast the valves, which can cost over $500 USD. The 2006 (and 2007 GS430?) model year is also prone to issues with the ECU, per Lexus service bulletin L-SB-0126-12, and the RWD GS300 transmission (the A960E) isn't quite up to the standard of the AWD and 350/430/460 models. As an early year of this generation, there are also some issues that are much less prevalent on later cars, including oil consumption, dash rattles, front cover oil leaks, and infotainment system screens dying. Combine that with the lack of streaming bluetooth audio, smaller front brakes, the fancier VDIM traction management system which was 2008+ (and V8 model 2006-2007(?)), and the updated interior for 2008+ ... I would say that you should know what you are getting into with a 2006 model, and it should be at a significant discount to account for the liabilities. On the plus side, this looks like a pretty fully optioned GS300, with the park distance sensors, navigation system, and wood steering wheel / shift ****. It probably also has the AFS lighting, rain sensing wipers, and rear sun shade ... but in the end it is still a 2006.
