Question Remote Start & Car Shutting Off At Door Open

Hey Everyone

I'm new here.
I just purchased my first Lexus, GS350 F sport 2014, I didn't realize that after remote starting the vehicle it shuts off when you open the door. I find this to be counterintuitive given that If I'm entering the car to drive, the engine needs to be continuous running so what is the point of shutting off engine when I open the door and forcing me to restart the engine right after sitting down. Does anyone know any work around that will keep the car running after remote start? I find this annoying.

I'm not aware of anything that will work with the stock remote start. How much is the subscription now? Did they give you a year then start charging afterward? I agree it's totally counterintuitive. MB does this as well. But that doesn't seem to bother them. Lol.

Welcome!

I seem to recall that 2015 was the first year with the Lexus provided, subscription based remote start. Does your car have an aftermarket or dealer installed remote start system?

In any case, welcome to Toyota/Lexus, where the engine shuts off when you open the door...

They discontinued the subscription. I'm not sure how, but mine came with the factory remote start or maybe the previous owner might have added something, I don't know.

Maybe Car Chat Mod can move to 4GS for better assistance. How do you start it? Via app or fob? As JDR mentioned, it might be an aftermarket version.

Hahaha Thanks for the warm welcome. That's funny.

I think it is factory remote start that I have. I press the lock button three times and hold it down on the 3rd press for a few seconds and car starts.

Unfortunately thats the way Lexus remote start works. If it makes you feel better, Mercedes works the same way.

That's just how Toyota and others do it, it's annoying but at least you have the option. It's the same way on my Toyota but I seldom use it since my cars are inside heated garages and I just can't bring myself to blind start an engine.

I remember reading a conversation about BMW allows the engine to stay on while MB does not. Some joined and said MB did the right thing for safety reason. Lol. To make things worse, they won't let you start when your fuel level is below 1/3 or something around there, right?

Yes, at least they give you the option. It's extremely useful on hot and cold days.

Yep! Thats accurate. My Pacifica requires the start button to be pushed with the key inside the car while its in remote start, and then it just cycles to normal run mode without the engine shutting off. Much better.

most do. Bmw and mb do too. It’s the new trend. Most hardware will be built in but inactive and turned on via subscription.

What’s dumber is why even have it available on the key fob. The whole purpose is to cool or warm the car. Being able to start from the fob is sure convenient (too bad mb can’t do that) but what’s the point? I remember you need to be quite near the lexus and no obstruction in the path. If you have to be this close to start and the engine shuts off when you open the door, what good does it do? Unless you want a chat in the heat and wait for the car to cool down.
