Default Does anyone’s transmission not fully shift when cold?

I did see the other thread about cold trans and how jerky they are. But does I’ve seen my trans do this weird behavior while cold. It has only happened twice but it feels like it shifted but then it quickly changes back to the last gear or the gear it was going to doesn’t fully engage. I believe it happens on 2 to 3 or 4 to 5. Other than that car shifts fine when warm and kinda okay when cold.

Car only has 32k miles. Don’t think it was beaten on by previous owner. (Judging by service records) they only went through one brake pad at 25k miles for a rwd f Sport.

Doesn't sound quite right....
As an experiment, did you try switching to ECO mode to see if it changes anything? Not as permanent fix, but just to experiment.

Only other idea I have is to disconnect battery so tranny can relearn your driving habits.

If still no luck, I'd have it looked at by dealership. Good luck

@EdgarLex - Before the drivetrain warms up to its typical operating temperature the transmission is designed to hold whatever gear it is currently in for a moment before it upshifts. I suspect what you experienced is this delayed upshift but at the same time you probably applied a slight bit of throttle, which made it automatically downshift to the next lowest gear to accomplish the acceleration you requested with the added throttle. Between the designed delayed upshift and the added throttle at the same time you might say it got a tiny bit confused and reacted accordingly as you would expect it should. That's all. I don't think there is any problem...

I notice my '14 has always shifted "odd" and sometimes how you describe whenever it's cold AND it's in Eco mode. If it's in normal, it doesn't and shifts fine.

Maybe that's worth a try with yours? Do you drive it often in Eco cold?

Agreed. Eco & Cold makes shifting rougher.

Your GS is like a woman.. you can't be cheap and you have to warm her up before you go hard and fast.

Thanks @NJLEXES for your response! I think it gets worse in eco mode. I might give resetting the ECU a shot.

I think @bclexus hit it on the nail. The times I have noticed it happens is on an incline, the car gets confused as to what gear to be in. The 8 speed fighting itself to shift early (like it normally does) vs hold a gear when cold confuses the box.

@909 @Mangsailor yeah gonna drive it in normal from now on but still easy. Eco when cold just feels wrong lol.

I've had that happen times on my '14 F Sport & with my current '18 F Sport. When it's fairly cold out, the transmission will hold the gear for a bit, ignoring my manual shifting.
