Default Common upsells when bringing car for other service?

Are batteries and cabin filters common upsells ? I brought my car in for oil change and tbh I havent changed my cabin filter in awhile, its overdue, but I think its a relatively easy diy and dealer wants like $85. But he also claimed the battery failed some tests and advised that I change the battery for $200. I told her to hold off.

Cabin filters are literally a few dollars on amazon and it takes minutes to swap.
Most places that sell batteries will test it for free.
Next time ask her if that 285 upsell comes with a *******.

Lol, at the BJ comment

Is it even necessary to get battery tested if I am not having any issues?

Msrp on filter is $53 plus tax. That leaves $30 for labor. $200 to replace the battery isn't bad either. A good battery without labor is about $150-200

As far as testing batteries, i never do, just wait for it to start failing

I just ordered a Fram cabin filter from Amazon. I have changed that once before. Way over due
What about the engine filter? Any recommendations on an inexpensive replacement part?

Any Lexus dealers that sell discounted parts? (There are, for MOST brands)
I noticed LexusPartsNow, they don't have 2023 parts online yet, but their 2022 parts are reasonable (compared to RockAuto)

RX500 is too new to be listed in many of my places.

Yeah, the part I need is $22-15off + $9 shipping, I guess its not terrible, just wish shipping was cheaper - but that is basically what USPS charges

If you print out a discounted price from an online dealer, your local dealer parts clerk often gives you a discount (even if they don't totally price-match). Handy if you need or want something 'right now'.

Thanks for the tips on Bell Lexus.
