Hey guys, curious what you think about the transmission settings in the GS (my experience is with the 6 speed only).
Even when driving at 50km/h, if you hit the paddle shifter, it downshifts to the 5th gear; therefore in auto mode it selects the highest gear.
I could understand this, if the car was in ECO mode, in Sport + you'd expect a very aggressive set up. I presume fuel economy was their goal.
I wonder if the same set up exists on the 8 speed ?

It makes no difference which drive mode, including ECO, is selected, the transmission and engine will perform the same at WOT. Also, at WOT the transmission upshifts are not affected by using Manual/Paddle shifting as the transmission will automatically upshift to each higher gear at redline (see my information below) until the speed limiter is triggered. In other words, at a drag strip for example you can be in ECO mode and Drive, and it will be exactly the same results as S+ and Manual. Just stomp it and don't let up! It'll upshift in Manual for you automatically. And, of course you cannot over-rev the engine either. It's all setup to be foolproof...

Thanks for the info bclexus.
I have the 6 speed A760E transmission.
What I meant by the original post was that I would expect the car to hold higher RPMs in every gear in Sport mode, instead it always finds the high gear and then downshifts, which is pretty slow to occur.

At WOT the transmission will only upshift and that happens only at redline. The only time it will downshift while still accelerating is when less than WOT is used, such as with just light or medium throttle and typically coming up on the threshold of just coasting...or when literally lifting off throttle. In Sport and Sport+ modes it will indeed hold gears longer but once that threshold between acceleration and coasting comes about it will upshift (as is expected), but if then some degree of throttle is soon applied after the upshift it will downshift to provide an increase in acceleration. Oftentimes a driver's right foot can give mixed or confusing input when applying minimal amounts of pressure adjustments to the gas pedal.
