Thanks for posting about this, I’m going to think about it but I may grab one. Google Maps on the main screen would be really nice, as would more responsive music apps, phone app, and Siri…

I sent Grom a Pm inquiring about the differences between the VLine and VLite. I think the VLite may be what I'm looking for but I'm waiting for a response.

There is a chart here comparing the two, not sure if you've seen it already. I'm not sure exactly what some of the features listed are, or how they would affect me in reality, so maybe that's what you're asking about too.

Vlite doesn't include the Android interface to download apps directly to the device. It's just a screen mirror for carplay and Android Auto.
Vline allows you to download apps to the device.

Yes, correct. The VLite VT2 is for CarPlay / Android Auto only. The VLine VL2 is for CarPlay, Android Auto and also fully-functional stand-alone Android where you can download the apps directly onto the system. The VLine VL2 also offers hdmi-in/out, and the aftermarket backup and front-facing camera integration.

Both systems support wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and both do not disable any factory cameras, FM radio, climate controls, etc...

If you would like to join the group order, send us the PM with your name and email address, and we will add you to the group. You can also contact us via web form at https://gromaudio.com/support.html

Default Security and Privacy Concerns

I run a cybersecurity company and one of the ways we see a lot of private data being stolen is through old Android OSs. much of this private data is later sold on the dark web and used to hack corporate accounts. Google provides Android for free, so long as you meet their privacy and security requirements, and many Chinese companies will not honor those requirements so they are stuck in very old Android versions. They also require signed versions with the code publicly posted for others to review. Has this code been fully disclosed as per the license agreement to use Android at all?

Why is this on android 8 and not a contemporary version?

Does the VLite version also run android as it’s OS with more limited access hence the difference in capabilities?

Hopefully all of these questions can be answered. I’d love to get one, but until there adequate answers I would highly suggest people give this some thought.

I used modern tablets because I like touchscreens. On my old tablets, I simply don't sign in or enter any sensitive info.

What are the loading speeds on vline and vlite? Since one is cheaper does it work slower?

The difference between the VLine VL2 and VLite VT2 is in the stand-alone Android capability where you can download the apps directly on the unit to work from Google play store or by sideloading. Both systems provide wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. The load speed is about the same.

You can check the difference between VLine VL2 and VLite VT2 systems here:
https://gromaudio.com/vl_compare.html
VLine VL2 also has HDMI-IN and HDMI-OUT, and the integration of the aftermarket backup and front-facing camera.
