Really? I would assume that a TPMS sensor reads the tire pressure at regular interval of time (e.g., once every 10 seconds) irrespective of the state of a tire.

It does send out signals but they work harder when you let the air out of them. Never seen that in print but can tell you it does happen. Can also say that 1 can go bad and when it is replaced all of the sudden the others fail to send out a signal.

Mine's a Feb 2012 build and I've only had to replace one battery so far. On the coldest winter days another battery would cause the orange light to flash indicating it's flat but it came good when it warmed up. It won't last the next winter but a new battery is only $10.

Is it possible to change the battery only and not the whole sensor?

Is it possible, yes, is it easy, no. The battery side is encased in epoxy.

Yes, I replaced the battery in mine. It's **** easy if you know how to use a soldering iron.

Got a shop to remove the tyre. It's just a nut, I have genuine oring/valve kits for the sensors too, they were about $3 eachm
