I don't think there will be a 5th gen because of how the market is now. Heavy on the SUVs and light on the sedans. It's been 4 years since the GS is discontinued. I doubt there will be any talks about resurrecting a dead model.

Highly doubt it, but would be very surprised if they do pursue.

I just came back from Osaka and Nagoya which is close to Toyota City. The new JDM Toyota Crown sedan is quite popular in Japan. The US market only get the Toyota Crown SUV version.

The Toyota Crown sedan architecture underpinning will most likely be the next generation ES as the midsize sedan but nothing for the GS.

I doubt Toyota/Lexus will make another GS as they didn't sell in great numbers compared to an ES. It doesn't make sense to have 2 midsize sedan in the line up.

I've seen a number of Toyota Crowns around Dallas and they weren't SUVs.

The crown sedan is actually on the LS chassis - same as the previous crown. The ones before were essentially JDM-only "softer" (sometimes) GS's - same chassis.

You've seen the "crown cross" which is essentially a lowered Rav4/RX/whatever platform.

The new Crowns sits on two architecture underpinnings. The RWD Crown, now called Crown Sedan, is sitting on the TGNA-L. The rest of the Crown lineup (Crossover, Estate/Signia, and Sport) sits on the TNGA-K platform. The ES will always be on the TNGA-K platform.

The upcoming Crown Signia will be an SUV, if you want to call it that.

Sure looks like Toyota is calling this Crown a sedan...

The Crown Sedan being sold in the US is sold as the Crown Crossover in Japan. The USDM Crown Sedan/JDM Crown Crossover is based on the FWD TNGA-K architecture, and is essentially a "sedanified" Highlander, similar to what BMW did with the X6 - took a midsized SUV, gave it a fastback roofline, and called it a "coupe". Dynamically, the USDM Crown Sedan is going to drive like a crossover SUV because, fundamentally, that is what it is.

The JDM Crown Sedan, based on the RWD TNGA-L architecture, is not being sold in the US at all. It is a completely different vehicle from the USDM Crown Sedan.

I think the sun has set on the GS line.

I would love to see the GS return but it’s not looking too good. Lexus is all about crossovers and SUV’s now.

Yup, I thought that same that it is a sedan. But my Dad just picked one up in April and it does have a slightly higher ride height for a sedan. Hence it is somewhat like a cross-over vehicle

Only 4" taller than a conventional sedan.
